Set of Four Edward Wormley (1907-1995) for Drexel Side Chairs, High Point, North Carolina, designed c. 1950, elm frames with striped velvet upholstery, ink stamp mark "by Drexel," ht. 32 1/2, seat ht. 18 1/2, wd. 20, dp. 22 in. Note: Wormley was an American modern furniture designer. In 1926 he studied briefly at the Art Institute of Chicago and then worked as an interior designer for Marshall Fields & Company. In 1944, while working for Dunbar, Wormley led their Modern focus incorporating European and Scandinavian influences into their lines. The result was furniture that was sophisticated yet mainstream, and very successful.
