12-inch Table Globe by Joslin, with cartouche Joslin's Terrestrial Globe Containing All the Late Discoveries and Geographical Improvements, also the Tracks of the Most Celebrated Circumnavigators. Compiled from Smith's New English Globe with Additions and Improvements by Annon & Smith. Revised by G.W. Boynton. Manufactured by Gilman Joslin, Boston, made up of twelve engraved gores on plaster sphere, countries lightly shaded green, pink, pale-blue and yellow, the coasts hatched, densely labeled with major towns, showing rivers and mountain ranges, America with individually-shaded states in contrasting colors, California divided into California and Lower California, Canada labeled British America, the oceans uncolored but showing the dotted tracks and dates of voyagers including Cook, Gore, Wilkes and Anson, the Antarctic marking the progress of Wilkes, Enderby and Weddell, the Arctic with hour ring in Roman and Arabic numerals and brass arrow pointer, Analemma, Equatorial divided by hours and degrees, the Ecliptic by days of the month and the Zodiacal calendar, the Prime Meridian passing through Greenwich, in calibrated brass full-meridian circle, paper horizon ring, with red-painted rim, showing the Gregorian and Zodiacal calendar, the classical sigils, the compass points, and lines of Amplitude and Azimuth, on mahogany stand with four baluster-turned legs joined by "X" stretcher, ht. 18 1/2 in., (two stable age cracks in horizon ring, otherwise extremely clean condition).
