Condition: Lined, minor loss to u.l. corner, surface imperfections, scattered accretions and varnish discoloration to sky, fine craquelure. Provenance: Purchased in Venice in 1999. N.B. Based on a Canaletto work from the 1730s, this copy is thought date from the early 20th century or perhaps the later 19th century. According to a note that accompanies the painting, there are sixteen known variants of this composition by Canaletto, and the copy at hand appears to be based on a version in the Accademia in Florence.
