The surfaces glisten with fresh nickel-silvery color projecting an essentially untoned appearance. This one exhibits an especially bold strike with no mentionable distractions on either side. Die polishing at the Mint has caused incompleteness at the tops of some of the letters on the reverse, such as the D, S, S, F and R as well as the bottom of the S in CENTS, a trait that is seen on many proof nickels of the 1870s. Only 1,000+ proofs were struck. PCGS Population: 12 in Proof 66, just 1 finer. (PCGS 3824)
