1907 (MCMVII) $20 High Relief - Wire Edge

Schätzpreis
15.000 $ - 17.000 $
Zuschlagspreis:
n. a.
Beschreibung:

Sparkling yellow-gold with rich honey highlights and strong eye appeal. A pleasing example with a few faint marks noted, though the depth and beauty of the design type tend to diminish these greatly. The MCMVII High Relief double eagle has been heralded by many as the single most beautiful issue in the history of American numismatics. The design was the culmination of President Theodore Roosevelt's dream of adopting coinage designs that embrace the high-relief aesthetic charm that characterized the coinage of the ancient Greeks. Unfortunately, such coins made striking difficult and proper stacking impossible; accordingly, Roosevelt's dream, being unrealistic, was ultimately dashed. (PCGS 9135) Choice Uncirculated, with prooflike characteristics.
