Beschreibung:

Like its major rivals, Scott was well aware of the publicity value of racing and the allure of models with a TT connection, so the adoption of an optional full-frame tank, like that of the works racers, for the new Flying Squirrel was not surprising. Launched at the Olympia Show in 1925, the ‘Flyer’ came in 498cc and 596cc capacities, the latter being the most expensive machine in the range. Subsequent models further benefited from the racing programme, gaining the duplex frame and bigger brakes (first seen on the works bikes in 1926) and the mag-platform Pilgrim oil pump adopted for the 1927 TT machines. This Scott Flying Squirrel was sold at Bonhams’ Stafford sale on 17th October 2004 (Lot 379) and has been owned by the vendor for the past four years. At that time (2004) the machine was described as having previously belonged to Peter and John Hogan Restored in 1981/82, it has been up-graded with a Noel Kitson-built TT Replica engine (dating from 1929) as well as TT Rep forks and alloy wheel rims. (It should be noted that although the engine-number prefix ‘RY’ denotes a 596cc unit, the top end is interchangeable with that of the 498cc unit). The machine is offered with old-style logbook, expired MoT/road fund licence (2006) and Swansea V5 registration document.
