Beschreibung:

George Brough was a master vehicle builder, producing arguably the most famous name in road motor cycles from his Haydn Road, Nottingham address. He was a master publicist as well, convincing the world that a Brough Superior was immeasurably better than other, similar, machines using basically the same engines and components. Although the ohv 680 and, later, the iconic SS100 were the more famous machines, his side-valve motor cycles formed the majority of sales, with the SS80 the most numerous. The last development of the Brough was the late ‘thirties 11 – 50, an extremely powerful bike using a J.A.P, side-valve V-twin of 1100 cc. It is also one of the rarer Broughs, being built in comparatively small numbers as well as being over 25% more to buy, at 130 guineas in 1939, than the SS80. This example was registered after June 1939, making it one of the last Broughs of all. Featuring the bevel-drive magdyno of the later machines, it is in absolutely original condition, one of Bonham’s renowned ‘Barn-finds’. Last taxed in 1955, this lovely rebuild prospect has all of its original handlebar fittings, instruments, exhausts, paintwork and chrome, and is missing only its saddle and toolboxes, both obtainable ‘off-the-shelf’. Mechanically, the engine is free, although a previous owner has removed the rear piston, presumably for a decoke, and this is included with the machine. There are no papers with the Brough, but the 1955 tax disc should enable its Nottingham registration to be retained, and research in the still existing records of the factory and the Local Authority may well be rewarding. A long- unused and unmolested Brough presents an almost unique opportunity.
