DKW, founded at Zschopau in Saxony just after WW1, benefited greatly from their designer, Hugo Ruppe. His enormous expertise in two-stroke matters enabled DKW to produce world-beating competition bikes and, in the ‘30s, unit-construction road machines which were powerful and trouble-free. Their SB and NZ models were produced in large numbers in both civilian and military guises during WW2 as was the RT125 itself the basis for other makers’ ranges post-war. This DKW SB 350 14 bhp single was bought, in original, well-used condition in 1971, the in-house restoration completed by 1980 for the museum’s opening, since when it has been on display. All necessary mechanical parts were replaced before painting and chroming to a high standard. Offered with an Austrian registration document.
