This kustomized 1946 Ford was built for Grease, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John- and was featured in the final sequence when Danny and Sandy sail off into the clouds to the sounds of “Love is a Many Splendored Thing.” Barris exhibited the car and later trademarked it for toy merchandizing with RC2 and other toy manufacturers. Grease Lightning was most recently featured at the Olivia Newton-John-concert in Corona, California, April, 2005. Grease was based on the hit Broadway musical and tells the story of two love-struck high school seniors, Sandy Olsen and Danny Zuko. The story follows the students of rockin’ Rydell High. Bad Boy Danny falls in love with sugar sweet Australian exchange student Sandy, but comes to think she doesn’t fit in with his leather jacketed, tough-guy image.
