Beschreibung:

1961 ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER CLOUD II STANDARD SALOON Registration No. XWV 638A Chassis No. SXC 529 Engine No. 629 CS Engine: V8, alloy block and cylinder heads, overhead valves by pushrods and rockers from central camshaft, hydraulic tappets, 6230cc, bore and stroke 104mm x 94.4mm, compression ratio 8:1, 200bhp at 5000rpm, twin SU HD6 carburettors, coil ignition, 12 volt electrics. Transmission: four-speed automatic gearbox through epicyclic gears, hypoid bevel final drive. Suspension: front, independent, wishbones and coil springs, anti-roll bar, rear, semi-elliptic leaf springs, radius rods, Z bar, hydraulic shock absorbers at front, electrically controlled hydraulic piston type shock absorbers at rear, two position ride control. Brakes: four wheel servo assisted drums with hydraulic front and combined hydraulic/mechanical rear, dual master cylinders. Right hand drive. The Silver Clouds spanned the period 1955 to 1965 and were the models that re-established the Rolls-Royce sales presence in America so successfully. They had seperate chassis and body construction, the latter featuring aluminium boot lid, bonnet and doors, and to begin with used a six-cylinder engine also common to their Bentley counterparts. Then in 1959 the thirty per cent more powerful V-8 engine that the company had been working on since 1947 was ready for installation in the new Silver Cloud 11 and Bentley S2. The first owner of this car came from the Blackpool area but little else is knowm of its early history. This car returned from Illinois in the USA to this country in 1990 and by all accounts had spent around 10 years in the States. Certain amounts of restoration work were carried out in America and included a re-paint and some mechanical work. The coachwork is finished in the two tone scheme of black and silver and the cream leather upholstery is original. The woodwork is desribed as good and it has an HMV radio fitted, the recorded mileage is 99,384 and this would appear to be genuine.
