1965 ALFA ROMEO GIULIA SPIDER Chassis No. AR392337 Red with black leather interior Engine: four-cylinder in-line, twin overhead camshafts, 1,600cc, 129bhp at 6,500rpm; Gearbox: five-speed manual; Suspension: front independent wishbones and coil springs, rear live axle; Brakes: front disc, and rear drum. Left hand drive. Alfa Romeo established itself as one of the truly great producers of exotic sport and racing cars in between the two world wars. The early Alfas were handmade, and were built in relatively limited numbers. In the process of rebuilding after World War II, Alfa Romeo pursued a trend to build smaller and more affordable cars in an effort to appeal to the masses. The change over from the Giulietta to the Giulia Series occurred as a gentle transition. The larger displacement 1600cc engine was substituted into existing type 101-chassis vehicles beginning with the 1962 model year. The stroke increase from 75mm to 82mm made for a more serious, powerful feel and the familiar high-pitched exhaust rasp. With the new engine becoming such a great success the engineers turned their attention to the body and chassis design. Road & Track found it to be, "an excellent sports car by any standards." This Giulia Spyder was bought approximately ten years ago from the original California owner where we are told the car has spent its entire life. Most recently it has been fitted from an engine rebuild that included an overhaul of the carburetor, alternator and installation of a new voltage regulator. The engine has been nicely run-in with approximately 1,000 miles clocked on the rebuild. A new black leather interior was fitted along with a new top and even the correct floor mats were located. Additionally, a new set of tires were fitted, and the brakes rebuilt. There were only 90 Spider Veloce's made between 1964 and 1965, and this Spider is one of the last ever produced before Alfa Romeo discontinued the Veloce model. It is fitted in the attractive and correct colors of red with black. WITHOUT RESERVE
