1966 FORD MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE Registration No. MBJ 137D Chassis No. 6 RO 8C 124517 Engine No. C60E 9425 A White with black interior and black hood. Engine: 90 degree V8, 4728cc, 203bhp at 4400rpm; Gearbox: three-speed automatic; Suspension: independent front by unequal length arms and vertical coil spring, half elliptic springs to rear live axle, telescopic dampers; Brakes: hydraulic drum all round. Left hand drive. The Mustang, a brilliantly successful expression of Ford's 'personal car' concept promoted by Lee Iacocca, was introduced in late 1964 and went on to sell more than 400,000 in less than a year. The styling was remarkable and, under the skin, an amalgam of well tried Ford mechanical components from their medium and compact ranges was found. The Mustang's long-bonneted (hooded) outline and neat two-door cabin, providing just enough space for four occupants, was unique in America. Combined with suspension soft enough to make for easy riding on American highways and more responsive handling than offered by the average American sedan, its clever looks enabled the Mustang to carve its own niche in the US market. It was offered in Fastback, Convertible and Hardtop versions with a vast range of equipment models. Sold new in America to a Mr Thomas Kreiger of Sepulveda, California, this convertible was acquired by the present owner from the president of the Geneva Mustang Club four years ago. It was already in very good condition having had some Sfr 7,000 spent on refurbishment of the engine and bodywork; however the owner chose to order a special engine, to be built in America, and shipped to Switzerland where it was installed in the car; photographs of this restoration accompany the car. Since then the car has covered just over 2,000 miles. Imported into the UK in August 1996, a year later it won Best Convertible in the 1964-66 class at the Mustang International Concours at Knebworth. An immaculately presented example, it is now offered for sale as the owner is moving from the UK.
