This unique Lambretta Li 125 is one of three customised scooters donated by musician Paul Weller’s recording company, Go Discs and offered as prizes by London’s Capital Radio in 1996. This example, which features artwork inspired by Weller’s second solo album, Wild Wood, was won by Susan Eliot, of Dagenham who successfully identified a selection of clips from Weller songs. The main beneficiary though, was her boyfriend and long-time Weller fan, Mark Read. Paul Weller presented the lucky couple with their prize and the event was reported in the local press and in scootering magazines (see photograph and press cuttings on file). Executed by Kinetic Art, the air-brushed Wild Wood artwork is signed on each side panel ‘Kinetic Art 96’ (the other two Lambrettas featured designs inspired by Weller’s Stanley Road album). The Lambretta had been restored by Grandsport in Birmingham immediately prior to its presentation in 1996 and has been dry-stored ever since. Presented in excellent condition, the machine is offered with the aforementioned press cuttings, expired MoT (1997) and Swansea V5C registration document.
