This beautiful French Blue S3 is one of a handful of Elans known to have been produced as a “Super Safety” model, manufactured in the last months of S3 production. Supplied by Lotus Cars to the first owner Mr. R. Walker via Sports Motors Limited in Manchester, the Elan was fitted with black badges throughout after the passing away of the legendary Jim Clarke at Hockenheim in 1968. The Elan has just come from long term ownership of 40 years, with 30 years as a daily driver before being comprehensively restored. The restoration including a bare body repaint, a new galvanised chassis, and full mechanical overhaul. After the rebuild was completed the Elan retired with its owners to the South of France, where it remained until 2016. Since returning to the UK in early 2016 the Elan has enjoyed a thorough re-commissioning, with attention to the braking and cooling systems, servicing of the engine and drive-train, electrical testing and repair where necessary, and numerous smaller jobs such as replacement seals, and new carpets and interior trim. The Elan was also treated to a few sensible upgrades such as electronic ignition and the fitting of an alternator. Fitted with a period radio and now shod with a nice set of Goodyear GT80s, the Elan presents very well with excellent panel gaps and a nice paint finish to the outside. The engine shows good oil pressure, the handling is precise and all electrics work as they should. Offered with a current MoT and V5C registration document (retaining its original 1968 registration number), a folder of invoices, MoT certificates and correspondence, Certificate of Provenance and letter confirming original build data, and showing a mileage of just 45,000 miles, this is a lovely genuine Elan which we are sure will provide huge amounts of fun over the summer months.
