Beschreibung:

Daimler passed into Jaguar ownership in June 1960 and the former’s products gradually lost their individual identity, becoming up-market versions of the latter’s. One of the first of these ‘badge-engineered’ Daimlers was the S-Type-based Sovereign of 1966. The S-Type had been announced in October 1963, the most important change to this Mk2-derived model being the adoption of independent rear suspension similar to that of the E-Type sportscar and MkX saloon. As well as the usual improvements to roadholding and ride quality, the new suspension enabled the rear seat to be moved back 3”, creating more legroom. Other interior changes included a MkX-type fresh-air heating/ventilation system and all-new seats. Introduced at the same time as the equivalent Jaguar 420 (effectively a re-styled S-Type with the 4.2-litre engine) the Daimler Sovereign was identical apart from its traditional fluted radiator grille and minor interior trim changes. Stored for the past 15 years, this Sovereign has been fitted with new (unpainted) sills and is offered for restoration. We are advised that the engine runs and that a spare new-old-stock rear screen is included in the sale. Finished in green with beige leather interior, the car has the desirable automatic transmission and comes with service book (stamped to 1971), handbook and Swansea V5. The lot is offered without reserve and sold strictly as viewed.
