Introduced from 1978 onwards, the R45 and R65, differing only in cylinder bore size, were intended to broaden BMW’s range appeal by providing sportier and lighter versions of the larger ‘boxer’ twins. In the ten years to 1988 many thousands of both capacities were sold and most of them continue to give solid and reliable service to their riders. PNB 522W is in complete and unmodified condition, other than the provision of a full fairing and a re-spray in metallic blue. Running well, but in need of a set of front discs, it has been used until recently, when part-exchanged for a newer machine. Supplied with a V5C and both old and recent MOT certificates confirming the mileage, this ‘lightweight’ BMW should provide many thousands of reliable miles for its new owner.
