Introduced in March 1971, the Corniche was developed from the Mulliner, Park Ward-bodied two-door variants of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and Bentley T-Series saloons. These were themselves landmark cars when first introduced, being the Crewe factory’s first unitary-construction cars. The power unit was Rolls-Royce’s familiar 6,750cc aluminium-alloy, V8 unit which, for the Corniche model, produced 10% more power than standard, slightly more torque and propelled the car to a top speed in excess of 120mph. The Corniche received Rolls-Royce’s advanced, split-level air conditioning system along with a re-designed fascia in 1976 and in 1977 benefited from many further improvements, most notably the rack and pinion steering introduced for the Shadow II range. The coachwork was supremely elegant with the hood erect or folded and featured alloy doors, boot lid and bonnet. A ready market was found overseas, particularly in America and Australia and of course the English market warmly received these elegant and exceptionally expensive motor cars. Significant competitors such as Mercedes-Benz in Germany and Cadillac in America could only look in awe at this world-beating grand touring car. This car comes with its original bill of sale, all invoices and a full service history and history file. It is superbly presented in nutmeg livery with cream hood and has tan leather upholstery with cream piping. Its vendor describes the car as in generally excellent condition with good transmission and electrics and superb unmarked paintwork. This exclusive all-British classic is offered with a Swansea V5 registration document, current road fund licence and MoT certificate.
