Introduced in 1982, the Silver Wing was based on the existing CX500 twin and represented a more affordable alternative to the four-cylinder Gold Wing. Conceived as a middleweight sports-tourer, the CX featured an 80-degree v-twin engine with water-cooling and four valves per cylinder, mounted transversely beneath a spine-type frame and driving the rear wheels via shaft. The GL500 Silver Wing variant was mechanically virtually identical, although readily distinguishable by virtue of its top-half fairing, stepped seat and smaller rear wheel. This Silver Wing was acquired by the current owner in February 2002 and displayed on the Honda UK stand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2005. First owned by Miss Margaret Walters of Trallwn, the Wing was purchased from Bob Wilding Motor Cycles by Elwyn Morgan, the immediately preceding owner, and kept in dry storage for many years (see purchase receipt on file), hence the exceptionally low recorded mileage of only 346. Last taxed for the road in 2005, the machine is offered with sundry invoices, SORN paperwork, expired MoT (2005), Swansea V5C documents and its original tax disc.
