L'essai est concluant et Fiat se lance aussi dans la modernisation de sa gamme. En 1969 sont présentées les A111 et A112 tandis que la marque Autobianchi passe sous le contrôle de Lancia. L’Autobianchi A112 fut conçue en 1969 pour concurrencer l’Austin Mini. Elle en mime ainsi l’architecture avec un moteur quatre cylindres monté à l’avant, en position transversale. Une version Abarth fut aussi créée pour jouer sur les plates-bandes de Cooper. Celle-ci s’équipe d’abord d’un moteur 982 cm3 développant 58 chevaux, puis dès 1976, d’un 1050 cm3 de 70 chevaux. La puissance n’est en soit pas énorme mais la A112 ne pesait que 700 kilos ce qui générait un excellent rapport poids-puissance. Elle atteignait ainsi les 164 km/h. La version Abarth de la A112 avait bel et bien le caractère sportif que cherchait à lui donner son illustre préparateur.
