Just a few years after introducing the R90/6 and R90S, BMW upped the capacity of its range-topping flat-twins to 980cc for the 1977 season in the form of the ‘/7’ series, comprising the R100/7 tourer, the cockpit-faired R100S sportster and the fully faired R100RS superbike. Within a couple of years the R100/7 ‘naked’ had been re-titled R100T and used the 65bhp engine, while the others continued to use the 70bhp engine together with the new R100RT super-tourer. ‘BMWs have always managed to give you a unique and almost uncanny feeling of complete security and stability at speed,’ observed Bike magazine’s Peter Watson. ‘The ability to maintain cruising speeds of over 100 mph for as long as your licence holds out must be one of the machines’ most attractive features.’ This BMW R100, complete with Watsonian GP Manx sidecar, was first registered in 1984 on the Isle of Man, enjoying four owners there before being purchased by the vendor in July 2006. We are advised that the sidecar is only four years old and has never been used on the road, and that the machine should be serviced and checked over before further use. Offered with IoM registration document and 2006 bill of sale.
