The first 1000cc V4 Honda "superbike" launched in March 1984 was the 1000 Interceptor with a chain driven twin overhead cam, 16-valve 113hp 998cc. America had to wait until 1986 for the gear driven cam motor, the VF1000R; the rest-of-the-world twin round headlamps had to be replaced by the US-spec rectangular version, a key recognition point. The VF1000R claimed an increased output of 125hp. The chassis remained much as before but for dual floating front discs and racing style rear caliper. The 16-inch front and 17-inch rear NS type aluminum ComStar wheels came with quick-release axle clamps, and other features included adjustable clutch and front brake levers, full endurance style fairing and solo seat cowl. This one owner example comes from a collection and reportedly runs very well and is complete with owners manual and tool kit. The odometer shows 20,785 miles, believed to be correct.
