STARRETT, etc. etc., mostly publ. between ±1925-1970, mostly in fine condition. = Vincent Starrett (1886-1974), versatile writer of horror, detective (Sherlock Holmes!) and fantasy fiction as well as poetry, journalism and articles on bookcollecting. Most of the items included in this lot are signed or contain an AUTOGRAPH SIGNED DEDICATION. The following is a list of works contained in the lot that give a fine overview of his interests: V. SIGNED); IDEM, Ballad of Brobdignag (letterpress bifolium, n.pl., "Fall, 1925" and monogrammed dedication in pen and ink by the author); A.E. HOUSMAN, R.L.S. (letterpress bifolium, (Ysleta), Edwin B. Hill, n.d., one of 50 copies printed "for the friends of Vincent Starrett and Edwin B. Hill". SIGNED by V. Starrett on the colophon); V. STARRETT, The Dog that Spoke French (n.pl., n.d. The pen notes are by the author, Mr. Smith, now dead"); THE TRIAL OF JOHN JASPER FOR THE MURDER OF EDWIN DROOD (n.pl., (1914), (8)p. (incl. dec. wr.). Sl. foxed and lower outer corner of 3 leaves sl. dam.). The letters (29 in all, partly with the orig. envelopes) are all written to CORNELIS HELLING and are dated between 1937-1948. They cover many aspects of their joint interest in Sherlock Holmes. Cornelis Helling was a Dutch adept of Sherlock Holmes (and Jules Verne), and founded the "Dutch Sherlock Holmes Society" in 1952.
