Illustrated with numerous plates of facsimile letters, reproductions of engravings, photographs, etc.; folding facsimile of the Californian, March 15th, 1848 (1st local mention of gold discovery). This edition extra-illustrated with documents, as indicated below. (4to) 26x17.5 cm. (10½x7"), linen backed boards, paper spine label. No. 236 of 100 copies (numbered 151 -250) of the Argonaut Edition, from a run of 2250 copies. Second Edition. Signed by Howell and Watson on limitation leaf. Scarce enhanced edition of the work first published in 1889 as Sixty Years in California, with textual additions & numerous new illustrations and facsimiles. This Argonaut Edition with additional items, including a page of the original manuscript, a handwritten letter to Davis, and the broadside announcing martial law in San Francisco immediately after the 1906 earthquake and fire.
