Title: 8 photographs of Zeppelins including view of the Hindenburg before its last flight Author: Wolff, Paul Place: Germany Publisher: Date: 1930s Description: Six gelatin silver photographs. Approx. 6x6¾, mounted on construction paper, with typed captions in German mounted below the images. Photographs by the noted German photographer Paul Wolff (1887-1951), whose creditable work concentrated initially on urban images for book illustration, but expanded into public relations for motor companies, fashion houses, and the photographic industry. The present group is most noteworthy for his head-on view of the German zeppelin Hindenburg at Frankfurt on May 3, 1937 [but with typed caption dated May 4], the day she left for the United States, to be destroyed in flames three days later at Lakehurst Naval Air Station in New Jersey. This is possibly the last photograph taken of the Hindenburg on German soil. Other photographs include two images of the construction of a Zeppelin Hangar, one image of a mooring tower with the nose of one zeppelin (possibly the Hindenburg) and another zeppelin in the background, two images taken on board a Zeppelin while in flight. Hindenberg image with stamp of the German Ministry of Propaganda on mount. Lot Amendments Condition: Mounts worn but photos overall very good. Item number: 200019
