A 1796 pattern Light Cavalry Troopers Sword, 32 inch, curved single edged blade, BO crown stamp at forte, plain steel stirrup guard, stamped,12 RLD, 21, leather covered grip, in its metal scabbard, stamped 12 LD/B50 (12th Light Dragoons) with two suspension rings. 12th (Prince of Wale's) Light Dragoons- The Waterloo Campaign The morning of Sunday 18th was clear and found the 12th Light Dragoons of Vandeleurs Brigade on the far left of the British line. In the early afternoon Napoleon's main attack came with four massive columns of D'Erlons Division rolling towards the centre of the British line, as the line broke, they were held by a charge of the Household and Union Brigades of the heavy cavalry, after smashing its way through two of D'Erlons columns, they came under heavy fire from a massed French battery of guns, the Household Brigade checked and withdrew, leaving the Union Brigade stranded, their horses blown and its men scattered.Realising the only way to extract what remained of the dragoons, the 12th and 16th were ordered to charge, the 12th leading. The charge Wellington later described as 'beautiful'.
