A 1920 Constabulary Medal (Ireland) awarded to Sergeant H. Maguire, Royal Irish Constabulary, for his gallantry in the defence of the Police Barracks at Ballinamuck, Co. Longford Constabulary Medal (Ireland), 2nd type, ‘Reward of Merit Royal Irish Constabulary’ (Sergeant Hugh Maguire 59496. 1920) with top silver riband bar, edge nicks, nearly extremely fine £2,400-£2,800 Footnote Royal Irish Constabulary Medal of Merit for Bravery granted 12 July 1920. Hugh Maguire, a native of Co. Leitrim, joined the Royal Irish Constabulary on 8 May 1900. He was stationed in Co. Limerick from 18 September 1900, and then in Co. Longford from 16 January 1909. He was promoted Sergeant on 20 May 1919, and was awarded the Royal Irish Constabulary Medal of Merit for Bravery in 1920, for his role in the defence of the police barracks at Ballinamuck, Co. Longford.
