Beschreibung:

A 19th century Sunderland jug faced with a polychrome view of the bridge over the river Wear with the text: 'A west view of the cast iron bridge over the river Wear built by R. Burdon Esq. Span 236 feet height 100 feet. begun 24 September 1793, Open'd 9 August 1796.' The opposing face decorated with a scene of imbibing sailors with the text: 'The flag that's braved a thousand years, the battle and the breeze'. The front of the jug decorated with a cartouche enclosing the text: 'The sun is up well brush the dew To hear the huntsman's gay halloo And hark the dog's enlivening cry Now see the horseman gallop by, And now we hearthe distant horn, Upon the dying echoes borne From copse to copse the hunters hie On hearing Drivers well known cry'. Restoration. Together with a miniature jug and basin, lustre jug, cranberry and vaseline glass tumbler, engraved Victorian glass tankard and a pearlware dish.
