A BALKAN DAGGER (BICHAQ), of yataghan form, with single-edged blade etched with foliage and inlaid in brass with an Arabic inscription on one side, the hilt entirely encased in silver cast and chased with foliage in low relief, in wooden scabbard covered in silver embossed and chased overall with a design of running foliage and engraved with the lion of St. Mark on one side, and a double-headed eagle on the other, and engraved below the filigree locket with owner's initials and the date 1808 (dagger associated), possibly Greek 18½in.
