A BASKET-HILTED BROADSWORD OF AN OFFICER OF THE ROYAL SCOTS THE BLADE BY PAGET, 19 PICCADILLY, EARLY 19TH CENTURY, THE HILT LATE 18TH CENTURY With tapering double-edged blade etched on each side towards the forte with scrollwork, and a crowned thistle with the motto 'NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT' and 'THE ROYAL' on a ribbon beneath, the blade with much period plated finish, iron hilt formed of rounded bars and retaining traces of plated finish, the shields pierced with circles and hearts and incised with lines, the lobe of each side-guard engraved with a thistle, the inner-guard with small bridle-loop, small fluted pommel with later tang-button, and wooden grip with remains of original black leather covering and wire binding 31½in. (80cm.) blade
