A Cased Pair Of 54-Bore French Percussion Rifled Target Pistols By Galand, Paris, Circa 1880 With blued octagonal sighted barrels each with matted top flat and stamped signature at the breech, scroll engraved case-hardened patent breeches, barrel tangs, locks, and mounts, the barrel tangs each with adjustable back-sight, figured walnut half-stocks (slight bruising) stamped '1' and '2' respectively in front of the lock, chequered butts, and nearly all their original finish: in original fitted case lined in plum velvet with accessories (turnscrew associated), the lid (cracked) inlaid with brass stringing and with central shield-shaped plaque 15¾in. (40cm.) Charles-François-Galand (born 1832, died 1900) gunmaker and inventor of the Galand revolver, of Paris and Liège (1860-1890), specialised in turn-over sporting guns. From 1879 to 1890 his Paris address was 13, rue Hauteville.
