A Cased U.S. Martially Marked Starr Arms Co. Model 1858 Navy Revolver, Serial No. 1245, circa 1858 round barrel with fore-sight, marked STARR'S PATENT JAN. 15. 1856. on left-side and STARR. ARMS. Co. NEW YORK. on right-side, cylinder stamped 1245, color case-hardened hammer and loading-lever, inspector's cartouche JT on left side of oil-finished walnut grip, contained within a mahogany case lined in rich purple velvet and equipped with wood-handled single-cavity bullet mold with sprue-cutter, powder flask with embossed motif of reposing dog and two birds, packet of skin cartridges: SIX CARTRIDGES / MADE OF THE BEST MATERIAL / EXPRESSLY FOR / THE STARR ARMS CO'S / NAVY PISTOL / NEW YORK. (unopened), jappaned cap tin with embossed brass lid: PATENTEES . LONDON / ELEY'S / DOUBLE WATER PROOF / CENTRAL FIRE / PERCUSSION CAPS 6-inch barrel A total of 23,000 of this model revolver are believed to have been produced very few of which were cased. This revolver is pictured in the William M. Locke Collection book p. 458, where it is shown in this same case and with some lead bullets, the case however is otherwise empty, the accessories presently with the case are later additions.
