A Chinese Cizhou-type turquoise-glazed garden seat, 16th century of slender barrel form, with four lion mask handles each suspending a ring framing a pierced section, painted in iron-black with a meandering peony scroll reserved on a cross-hatched ground, between two bands of raised studs below a lotus scroll and above petal panels, the top with a zigzag cross-hatched framed medallion enclosing a mythical beast and auspicious emblems, all covered with a crackled turquoise glaze stopping short of the foot -- 20in. (50.8cm.) high.
