Rendered on onion paper in watercolor and pencil, these whimsical drawings show characters from around the world and from different eras including a medieval knight, a Spanish dancer, a Native American and a court jester among many others. Also included is an archive of Le Maire's notes about this project, a letter to him from Henry Ringling North and a circus industry magazine from 1939 with an article about these particular Le Maire costume sketches. 24 x 17in
