A collection of Zulu beadwork South Africa including - five cylinder neckpieces, four waistbands with woven fibre backs and brass buttons, three waistbands with fabric backs and string, two pairs of anklets with brass buttons, six twin panel neckpieces, one broken, two cloth skirts, one hung with bells, a rectangular panel, a gourd cover and a plaited fibre neckpiece. (28) Provenance Inherited by Mrs Elizabeth Ransom of Perthshire, Scotland in the late 1960's Formed as a collection in Africa by a civil servant of board of agriculture, Scottish Office, worked out in Kwa Zulu Natal and helped the women of the Shembe Church in Durban out there as a young girl, end of 19th Century - Early 20th Century She contracted TB and went to Jamaica for her health. Came home annually then retired to Reading and then back to Scotland in early 1960's Died in 1964 aged 89 (1875 - 1964) Read more »
