(11x8½"), period calf with gilt-decorated borders, re-backed with modern blind tooled morocco, black and red spine labels lettered in gilt; marbled endpapers. Eighth Edition (so stated). Large quarto edition of Johnson's dictionary of the English language, first published in folio in 1755. One of the most important lexicographic works of all time, standardizing both the spelling and meaning of words. Lot Amendments Condition: Scuffing to calf, rubbing to edges; hinges repaired with cloth tape; interiors with toning and faint foxing; very good. Item number: 319455
