Beschreibung:

A fine and early large carved and painted Grodnerthal doll with chiselled high piled hair held by a gilded comb, tendrils of hair framing the face, carved ears with coral earrings and necklace, hazel eyes with arched single stroke brows and delicately painted upper lashes, the nose and chin well defined, the well carved body with elaborate bodice and shift painted light red with yellow dots and lines, the arms and legs with ball and hinge joints at shoulders, elbows, thighs and knees, the feet with painted red slippers, wearing later printed gauze frock and cotton and wool underclothes, circa 1810 --23in. (59cm.) high (forearms replaced, some face paint cracking and tip of nose and toes rubbed)
