A FINE AND RARE CASED PAIR OF AUSTRIAN SLIDING-PRIMER DETONATOR PISTOLS BY JOSEPH CONTRINER, WIEN, EARLY 19TH CENTURY With browned twist octagonal rifled barrels each signed in full in gold and with gilt bands at the breech and muzzle, the breeches each with three gold-lined maker’s marks, engraved case-hardened tangs each with two-leaf rear-sight, case-hardened flat bevelled locks each with sliding priming magazine on the Forsyth principle, engraved with trophies of arms, and with gold-lined maker's mark, figured walnut half-stocks each carved in relief with flowering foliage, set triggers, engraved case-hardened and blued iron mounts including spurred trigger-guards, silver escutcheons each engraved with initials, and retaining nearly all their original finish throughout, in unusual original brass-cornered mahogany lined and close-fitted case with some accessories including horn flasks, the compartment lids and pistol housed in the lid all retained by pivoting wooden catches (Pistols) 16 in. (40.5cm.) overall One mark on each breech conforming to Der Neue Støckel 206
