Beautifully engraved markings MODEL 1883 No 457 CAL .45 and oval plate engraved GATLING GUN PATENTED with border engraving around spirit level and further decorative flourishes. It has been said that the engraved markings and scrolls are by Colt's chief master engraver, Cuno Helfricht. The color of the bronze is an attractive honey color as found on the frame of a good Henry or 1866 Winchester. This is a splendid 1883 Gatling and one of the best and most complete to be offered in recent years. Condition: Condition of serial 457 is remarkable and is one of the better examples extant. The bronze casing has beautifully hand engraved markings in excellent condition. The carriage has been repainted in the original Army colors. The bolts are all original Gatling bolts properly DFC inspected. The Accles drum is an original. The barrels remain in remarkable condition with good bores and several barrels with brilliant rifling. The bronze is smooth and not pitted as are most Gatling's that saw military service. The action of serial 457 is smooth and dry fires perfectly.
