A FINE AND VERY RARE CASED 54-BORE TRANTER PATENT (FOURTH MODEL) FIVE-SHOT DOUBLE-ACTION PERCUSSION REVOLVING SPORTING CARBINE RETAILED BY W. RICHARDS, 61, OLDHALL ST., LIVERPOOL, SERIAL NO. 9432.T, CIRCA 1857 With octagonal browned twist barrel signed in full by the retailer and rifled with four grooves, blued bead fore-sight and rear-sight of one standing and one folding leaf calibrated to 200 yards, bright cylinder with decorative roped band at the front edge, case-hardened border and scroll engraved frame with nipple-shield fitted to the left side, blued arbor-pin, arbor-pin-catch and cylinder safety-stop, bright hammer with angled chequered spur protruding through a curved slot on the right side of the border and scroll engraved hammer-shroud, this last retaining some original blued finish, well figured walnut butt with chequered pistol-grip, bright trigger, blued border and scroll engraved trigger-guard with scrolled front edge, bright Tranter patent rammer, blued border and scroll engraved butt-plate, case-hardened scroll engraved pistol-grip cap and sling-eyes, retaining much original finish throughout, London proof marks, in original fitted mahogany case lined in green baize with accessories including a brass double-cavity bullet mould, a Hawksley rifle flask, a Japanned tin of Tranter 'Lubricating Composition' and Eley percussion caps, a Tranter tin for 'Lubricating Bullets', a Dixon oil bottle, and an original William Tranter 'Instructions for Loading' pamphlet illustrating third and fourth model revolvers, the lid with W. Richards trade label, the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying-handle and circular brass escutcheon 21in. (53.4cm.) barrel
