A FINE CARVED BAMBOO MYTHICAL BEAST 17TH CENTURY The beast is standing foursquare on cloven hooves and is carved with two down-turned horns on its head; the head is raised upwards to reveal under its chin finely carved tufts of hair curling at the tips, the body is similarly interspersed with larger tufts and the three long bunches of hair forming the tail is swept to one side of its hind leg whilst the other side is inscribed, Feng Xilu zhi , in cursive script 7 1/8 in. (18 cm.) wide
