Smith 64 Princes Street, Leicester Square, London, No. 5524 for 1846 With browned twist barrel and silver fore-sight, the breech section octagonal then sixteen-sided and signed on the top flat, case-hardened recessed patent breech with four platinum lines and platinum-lined touch-hole, case-hardened tang finely engraved with scrolls and a roosting pheasant, signed engraved case-hardened serial numbered lock inscribed 'Patent 3486' to the rear of the swept rainproof pan, blued roller and steel-spring, the steel engraved 'Patent Self Primer 3486', rounded cock, and chequered jaw-screw, lacquered finely figured walnut half-stock, chequered grip, finely engraved blued iron mounts decorated with scrolling foliage and vignettes of game birds, silver escutcheon and fore-end cap, and original brass-mounted ramrod, in near-new almost unused condition: in original lined and fitted serial numbered oak case with numerous accessories (stitching defective on shot-flask), the lid with trade label for 1825-69, the exterior with flush-fitting carrying handle and circular escutcheon, in unusually fine condition throughout, London proof marks 33in.
