A fine late 18th-century silver Butterfield-pattern compass sundial, signed on the upper side of the horixontal plate Butterfield AParis , with scales of hours 4-12, 1-8 for latitudes 43°, 46°, 49° and 52°, the folding gnomon with bird-shaped index and graduations 40-60°, the glazed compass with blued-iron needle with brass cap and 16 compass points marked, the underside with the latitudes of 27 continental towns and cities in minutes and degrees ( see below ), the Premier Cadran engraved on the underside of the compass box, contained in the original octagonal green plush-lined leather-covered case, with silver hinge ( two nails missing ), catch and two hooks and eyes ( some leather loss ) -- 3in.
