Each plaque set within a hardwood frame surrounded by openwork scrolling foliage and gourd vines, Qing dynasty, 19th century, each screen c. 217 x 48 cm; the wood screen with cracks and damages PROVENANCE: The screen was a gift from Gustaf Wallenberg (1863-1937), Swedish diplomat in Japan and China during early 20th century, to Carl Swartz (1858-1926), Swedish Minister of Finance (1906-11) and Prime Minister (1917). Carl Swartz received, what was supposed to be 'a small gift' c. 1906, when he moved to Stockholm from his hometown Norrköping.
