A George III mahogany library armchair, circa 1760
the shaped back, padded arms and seat covered in close-nailed green silk foliate damask, the incurved arms with linenfold decoration, the front legs composed of three cluster columns in two tiers with tri-form blocks and with rear outswept legs, the underside of each with concealed brass and leather castorsCondition reportOf lovely proportions. Upholstery good. The arms are attractively patinated as are the legs but with minor historic old marks and scratches. One arm with repaired break (this is well done and very historic) evidence of former upholstery tack holes which have been filled to the arms. Legs with losses to beaded moulding the front of one leg with this loss and residual glue to this site. Some of this applied beading possibly later. Old scuffs and marks as to be expected to the legs. Fabric generally good. Seat rails not inspected. A very good example of its type. Approximate measurements Overall height of back 99cm. Overall width of seat 70cm. Internal depth of seat 55cm.
