A good and rare German Renaissance gilt brass quarter striking 'Turmchenuhr' with alarm 6.5-cm engraved chapter ring callibrated I-XII and 13-24 with touching knobs and concentric alarm disc, subsidiary below with date, moonphase and day of the mooncycle, well foliate engraved surround, similar dial on the reverse with striking recording dials and enamel regulation dial, gilt brass posted movement, fusee going train converted to chaff-cutter escapement with brass balance and steel recoil spring, countwheel quarter striking on three bells, alarm on a single bell, case surmounted by a turned finial and onion domed cuppola above a three-tiered arcade containing the bells, with a ring of finials on each tier, the whole enclosed by a balustrade and turned corner finals, the central section with Doric pilasters flanking arched glass panels set in foliate engraved surrounds, moulded plinth with foliate scrolls and fruit, moulded ebonized base with key-drawer inscribed with ink Philip 4 Rue de la Paix 14 Frevier 1666 A.K., raised on bun feet 45cm. high.
