A Great War Passchendaele Casualty Group of Three to Private George Davies, Gloucester Regiment, 1914-15 Star (2264 Pte. G. Davies. Glouc:R.); British War and Victory Medals (2264 Pte. G. Davies. Glouc.R.), extremely fine, in card boxes of issue; Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque 'George Davies', in original card envelope of issue; Princess Mary Tin, Xmas 1914, (5) Lance Corporal George Davies of the 1st/4th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment was killed in action on the 9th October 1917 at the Battle of Poelcappelle, Third Ypres (Passchendaele and is Remembered with honour at the Poelcapelle British Cemetery, near Ieper. The Battle for Poelcappelle on the 9th October 1917, was a shambles because of inadequate artillery, appalling weather and breakdowns in communication. British casualties were very high and remained high for the rest of that month, the third worst month in terms of killed and wounded throughout the whole war, official estimates put British casualties at 110,000 for October alone.
