A group of four finely painted Indian oval portrait miniatures of Sikh leaders and the last Moghul Emperor. Oil on ivory. Circa 1850. Depicted are Maharajah Ranjit Singh, 'The Lion of the Punjab', Dalip Singh, The Maharajah of Patiala and Bahadur Shah II, the last Moghul Emperor. Ranjit Singh was a hugely successful ruler of the Sikh empire and was one of the few people who have defeated the Afghans by driving them out of the Punjab and taking Kashmir from them. He ruled his empire as a secular state without any religious persecutions. All measure approximately 1.2 ins. (3 cms.) x 0.8 ins (2 cms.). (4)
