The letter titled "Several Matters Regarding the New Yeshiva" is written in stencil in the penmanship of Rabbi Yitzchak Yaacov Reines the Av Beit Din of Lida. Nissan 1905 Rabbi Yitzchak Yaacov Reines (1841-1915, otzar 11375), was a great scholar and lecturer and a founding member of the Mizrachi movement. He was the Av Beit Din of Saukenai, Svencionys and Lida. He authored many books on the topics of Halacha and Agaddah. His yeshiva in Lida was unique for its time in that it included secular subjects in the students weekly schedule. Challenging the yeshiva system which did not include in its curriculum secular subject matter. Although the style of yeshiva he chose to run had great opposition in Torah world many students enrolled in the yeshiva, some of which had much success while others ended up licentious and revolutionaries and caused him much distress. Before us is Rabbi Reines' letter to the public upon the establishing his new yeshiva. The letter was written and signed by Rabbi Reines and was copied onto stencil – a rare and historic document. 4 Pages. 36.5 cm. Good condition. Minor tears to margins. Filing holes.
