A JAPANESE HIRADO MODEL OF A PUPPY MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY The small dog seated on its haunches, with its front left paw lifted and its head slightly turned to the side, wearing a capelet around its neck decorated with five-petal flowers, the details of the fur carved in the surface and the eyes highlighted with black iron oxide, the nostrils, mouth and base with holes for air to escape during firing, 14cm. Provenance: from the collection of Edward Croft Murray CBE (1907-1980). Croft-Murray was an expert in British Art and Keeper of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum.
