A large and impressive German silver mounted gilt copper monstrance, early 19th century the sacrement holder of crescent form, encrusted with garnets and green semi-precious stones, supported by angels above a brazier, the glazed aperture with bevelled panels, hinged door to the back, within a paste-jem encrusted border of palmettes, within an inner radiant spray intersected by an outer border of conjoined cornucopiae issuing sheaves and vines within the outer rays, surmounted by a further bejewelled coronet and crucifix, the candlestick stem surmounted by a floral basket, the oval base chased with floral swags, above galleries of foliate and stiff-leaf ornament, the underside applied with an inscribed plate, baring the inscription ........, the sacrement holder with assay marks -- 36in.
